It's that time of the year again -- time to sip cocktails in the great outdoors while rubbing shoulders with celebrities, international dignitaries and millionaires. It's time for the Virginia Gold Cup!

So, what's a girl (or guy) to wear?

Spring dresses in floral patterns and polka dots -- think Pretty Woman, not Minnie Mouse -- always bring a classic look, and are a safer choice than tight dresses or miniskirts (can someone say ... tacky?).

At Gold Cup, it's all about understated Southern charm and elegance.

When it comes to shoes, ladies will want to forego the stilettos and opt for something sensible -- like platform sandals or dainty ballet flats -- since there will be lots of walking in the grass (trust me, you won't want to sink as you are shaking hands with an ambassador).

For guys, slacks and a nice collared shirt is appropriate, stylish, yet comfortable attire. But, for the more fashion-concious man, a seersucker suit -- or a collared shirt, tie and slacks with a sports coat -- is a great choice.

Oh, and guys, you might want to hold the big, feathered hat. ... Unless you are realllly brave. :-)
